  4.     One day word has it that 80 Iraqi military officers were
  5. executed for attempting a coup. Another day the rumor is that
  6. 76 Iraqis and Egyptians were put to death for mounting an
  7. anti-Saddam demonstration south of Baghdad. Still another day
  8. brings the story that former Iraqi Prime Minister Saadoun
  9. Hammadi and 24 high-ranking army officers were shot for a coup
  10. attempt.

  12.     Unconfirmable reports of roundups and executions,
  13. circulated by Iraqi opposition sources intent on destabilizing
  14. the regime, have reached such a pitch that it is tempting to
  15. conclude that Saddam Hussein is pressing the panic button. On
  16. the other hand, Hammadi resurfaced in the inner circle after his
  17. rumored death. As for Saddam, he continues his belligerent hate
  18. campaign. Last week he marked Army Day with a cheer for the Scud
  19. missiles that had "hit the cursed Israel" during last year's
  20. war.
